How to Link or Unlink Nintendo Switch 2 and the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls App

Follow these steps to link or unlink a Nintendo Switch 2 console and the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls smart device application.

Note:

The Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app can be linked to up to eight Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch consoles.
Two parents or guardians in the same family group can share Parental Controls for all their linked consoles.

Linking a Nintendo Account to the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app allows parents and guardians to manage and monitor Nintendo Switch 2 usage through a smart device.

Before you start

A Nintendo Account (belonging to a user aged 18+) is required to use the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app. The same Nintendo Account can be used to sign into the app on multiple smart devices.
An Internet connection is required to link the console and the app. Data charges may apply.

Complete these steps

Download the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app on your iOS or Android device.

  - Visit p.nintendo.com using your smart device.
  - The link should redirect you to the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android).
  - Select the appropriate option to download/install or update the application.

On your smart device, open the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app and select Start on the title screen.
Review the overview information, then select Next.
Decide whether you'd like to send usage data for the app, then select either Send Data or Don't Send Data.
Select Sign In/Create Account. The application will launch http://accounts.nintendo.com in the device's internet browser.
Sign in to your existing Nintendo Account or create a new one.
Your Nintendo Account nickname will appear on the screen. Select Select this person to confirm.
You will be returned to the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls application. Select Next.
A registration code will appear on the screen of your smart device.
On the Nintendo Switch 2 console, open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
Scroll down to highlight Parental Controls.
Select Parental Controls Settings, then If You've Already Downloaded the App.
- "Change Settings" appears instead of "Parental Controls Settings"
  - This means you have already set up Parental Controls on the console without using the app.
    - Select Change Settings.
    - Enter your PIN.
    - Select Use the Free Nintendo Switch Parental Controls App.
    - Select If You've Already Downloaded the App, then select Next to verify that you have the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app.
Enter the six-digit registration code from your smart device. Select OK.
Select Link to link the Nintendo Switch 2 console to your smart device, then select OK on both the console and your smart device.
Once the linking process is complete, you can use the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app to set Parental Controls restrictions.

Important

Parental Controls restrictions on the console will be removed when the app is unlinked. If you still want to restrict certain features, you will need to set the restrictions again after the app has been unlinked.
Unlinking the app will not affect Nintendo eShop restrictions that have been set through a Nintendo Account.

To unlink using a smart device:

Open the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app on your iOS or Android device.
Select the menu icon in the top left corner.
A list will appear of all linked consoles. Locate the console that you want to unlink, then select the three dots icon next to it.
Select Unlink.
Read through the information on the screen, then select Continue.
The app will no longer be linked to this console.

To unlink using a Nintendo Switch 2 console:

On the Nintendo Switch 2 console, open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
Scroll down to highlight Parental Controls, then select Unlink App.
- If this option doesn't appear, your console is not linked to the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app.
Enter the Parental Controls PIN.

Select Unlink.
Select OK to return to the System Settings.
