Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is playable only on Nintendo Switch 2. If the game card is inserted into a Nintendo Switch console, you can play the Nintendo Switch version of the game without any of the additional features exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
If you already own Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Nintendo Switch, you can purchase the upgrade pack to play the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

Purchase the Megaphone from Nook's Cranny, then use it to find your island friends by calling out their names. The built-in microphone of Nintendo Switch 2 will help find where they are, even if they’re far away from you!
Play with more friends at once!
In the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, up to 12 players can play together on one island online or up to eight players via local wireless play.
With GameChat, you’ll be able to talk to your friends while playing with them. And by connecting a compatible USB-C camera, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 camera (sold separately), they’ll be able to see your expressions as you play!
Important notes regarding save data
- This game does not support the Save Data Cloud functionality of Nintendo Switch Online. However, a service to back-up Animal Crossing: New Horizons save data and recover it from the server in the event of console failure, loss or theft is available to Nintendo Switch Online members. For more information, please see our Support section.
- Using the System Transfer feature to move software and save data from an existing Nintendo Switch to a new Nintendo Switch 2 will transfer all Animal Crossing: New Horizons content, include save data. However, resident data must then be connected to the relevant user profile on the Nintendo Switch 2 before operating as normal. For more information, please visit our Support website.
Enhanced graphics require a TV that supports 4K resolution.
Additional accessories, games and/or systems may be required for multiplayer mode, sold separately.
To use online services, you must create a Nintendo Account and accept the related agreement. The Nintendo Account Privacy Policy applies. Internet connection and paid Nintendo Switch Online membership required. Mobile phone number registration required to use GameChat. Children must get approval from a parent or guardian via the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app to use GameChat. A compatible USB-C camera, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 camera (sold separately), is required to use some game features and video chat. Up to 12 people can join a voice chat session. Up to four people can share their game screen or take part in video chat simultaneously.
