A carefree new life is just beyond the horizon! Step off the plane and onto your very own deserted island where new friends, discoveries and opportunities are waiting for you. Paradise is what you make it in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Nintendo Switch!
The path to paradise
With nothing but a tent and your trusty new NookPhone, life will be a tad rustic to start with. But don’t worry! With a little elbow grease, the island can become somewhere you’re proud to call home. As they say, if you want things just right, there’s really only one option: do it yourself!
Collect DIY Recipes, then gather the materials needed. Craft tools needed for everyday use or outdoor furniture that can improve life for everyone. Decorate the island in all kinds of creative ways, or build bridges, paths, slopes and rivers to fashion the island however you like. It won’t happen overnight, but seeing the results take shape will be oh-so satisfying!
The more, the merrier!
You can’t turn your island into a paradise without others to share it with! Although you’ll only have a few to begin with, more would-be residents will arrive as the island improves. Help them get settled, then lend a hand with tasks, send gifts, arrange photo shoots on the island of Photopia and more, all in the name of friendship!
Better yet, up to eight people registered on one Nintendo Switch can live on the same island, and up to four can enjoy island life simultaneously*. You can also play with up to seven people either locally or online**, travelling to their islands or inviting them to yours. Whether you’re sharing gifts, competing in bug contests or just enjoying each other’s company, there’s always more fun to be had with friends!
A living, breathing world
Seasons change, time passes, residents get on with their day – even when you’re not around, life on your island goes on. Experience every season and all the unique things that each one brings to your new home!
Listen for Tom Nook’s daily announcements telling you what’s currently happening. Time-sensitive events such as special holidays and fishing tournaments come and go, so every sunrise can bring something or someone new to the island. Enjoy each experience while it lasts, then look forward to the next one!

There’s lots more to discover on your island! Visit the Roost in your museum and sample Brewster’s finest coffee, take a boat tour with Kapp’n to mysterious islands, or help Harv expand what his island has to offer.

And with the free Ver.3.0 update***, you can visit the new Resort Hotel, create new Slumber Islands with your friends and much more!
Compatible with amiibo
Tap in any Animal Crossing amiibo figure or amiibo card (including Series 1-5, Welcome amiibo and Sanrio Collaboration Pack, sold separately) and expand your Animal Crossing: New Horizons experience! Set up photo shoots on Harv’s island, or invite selected characters to the Roost or campsite on your island. Who knows, they might even stay!
You can also use Animal Crossing amiibo and amiibo cards to bring characters to the Paradise Planning resort in Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise. With over 400 characters available, there are plenty of dream vacation homes just waiting to be created!
You can also tap amiibo figures and cards to invite selected characters to the Resort Hotel. Plus, access themed furniture, fashion items and new characters by tapping selected amiibo from the Splatoon and The Legend of Zelda series!
Important notes regarding save data
- This game does not support the Save Data Cloud functionality of Nintendo Switch Online. However, a service to back-up Animal Crossing: New Horizons save data and recover it from the server in the event of console failure, loss or theft is available to Nintendo Switch Online members. For more information, please see our Support section.
- Using the System Transfer feature to move software and save data from an existing Nintendo Switch to a new Nintendo Switch 2 will transfer all Animal Crossing: New Horizons content, include save data. However, resident data must then be connected to the relevant user profile on the Nintendo Switch 2 before operating as normal. For more information, please visit our Support website.
- For more information on how to transfer save data and/or move users from one Nintendo Switch console to another, please visit our Support website.
(Note: to transfer save data, you will need to download the Island Transfer Tool from Nintendo eShop as this game does not support save data transfer via the Data Management settings.)
Once finalised, island names and primary player names cannot be changed. These names can be seen by others during local/online play, and for that reason these names are subject to moderation. The world of Animal Crossing is welcoming to all, so please don't include personal info or offensive words when choosing island and player names.
