No Sound While the Nintendo Switch 2 Console is Docked
This article can help you when:
An image is displayed on the TV screen but there is no sound coming from the TV speakers while the Nintendo Switch 2 console is docked.
There is no sound while using an external speaker system with Nintendo Switch 2.
Before you start
You will need:
Your Nintendo Switch 2 console
Your Nintendo Switch 2 dock
Your Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter
Access to the TV and HDMI cables being used with the dock
Access to a power outlet
You will perform troubleshooting steps for the console, before the TV and any other external devices being used.
What to do
Turn up the volume on the TV and ensure that it is not muted.
Remove any headphones or speakers connected to the audio jack on the console.
Ensure the console has the latest system update.
How to check for the latest system update
Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
Select System Update to start the system update process.
The system will check to see if an update is available.
For more information, see How to Perform a System Update on Nintendo Switch 2.
Test the console speakers by undocking the console and then press the Volume Buttons to adjust the volume on the console.
Start a game or application.
Confirm that there is sound coming from the console speakers.
If there is no sound on the console speakers, see No Sound From One or Both System Speakers on Nintendo Switch 2.
Power off the TV and unplug the HDMI cable from both ends.
Check the HDMI cable for any damage, and confirm its a compatible model.
What HDMI cables are compatible with Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo Switch 2 is compatible with Ultra High Speed HDMI™ Cable. If you're not using the HDMI cable that came with your console, confirm that your cable is "Ultra High Speed." This info should be printed on the cable.
The HDMI cable is damaged or not compatible
If damage is found, or it's not compatible, the HDMI cable will need to be replaced.
Unplug the AC adapter from both ends for at least 30 seconds to reset the adapter. While unplugged, check for any damage such as kinks, frayed cables, etc.
The AC adapter is damaged
If damage is found, the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter will need to be replaced.
Check that the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (Model NGN-01(AU)) is being used.
A different AC adapter is being used
Check to see if a Nintendo Switch AC adapter is being used, model No. HAC-002(AUS).
A Nintendo Switch AC adapter can be used to charge a Nintendo Switch 2 by being directly plugged into the console. A Nintendo Switch AC adapter does not provide enough power to be used with a Nintendo Switch 2 dock to support TV mode.
If the AC adapter being using is not model No. NGN-01(AU) or HAC-002(AUS), it is an unlicensed accessory.
Replacing the AC adapter being used with the original or a new Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter may resolve the issue.
Connect the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter into the dock and then into a wall outlet.
Connect the HDMI cable directly to the TV and to the dock.
If the HDMI cable was plugged into another accessory such as a DVI adapter, a sound bar, or an audio receiver, remove them temporarily.
Power on the TV and dock the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Ensure the correct HDMI input is selected on the TV set.
Confirm that an image is displaying on the TV when the console is docked.

I want to use an external speaker system
Keep in mind that not all external speakers may be compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.
For specific set up instructions for your external device, consult the user manual or contact the manufacturer for assistance.
There is still no sounds coming from the TV speakers
If the issue persists, try the following:
Use a different HDMI port on the TV
Use a different HDMI cable
Connect Nintendo Switch 2 to a different TV set.
If at all possible, test the console using a different dock.
If the audio and video on the TV work properly using a different dock, then the original dock may need to be returned for assessment. Please click here for warranty information and information on sending your products to Nintendo Australia.
If there is still no sound while using another dock, or if another dock is unavailable, the console may need to be returned for assessment. Be sure to include the dock and the original HDMI cable.
