Nintendo Switch 2 First-Time Setup and Connection

How to set up your Nintendo Switch 2 console for the first time.

Complete these steps

  • Connect the USB cable to the AC adapter.

  • Connect the AC adapter to a wall socket.

  • Insert the USB-C cable into the USB Type-C® connector on the console.

  • Attach both Joy-Con 2 controllers to the Nintendo Switch 2 console.

  • Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the first-time setup. Some of these settings can also be configured later.

    • System language and region settings

      • Text to speech can be enabled on the language selection screen. A system update may be required to use this feature. See the "Text to Speech" section in our Accessibility Features Guide for more detailed steps.

      • Hold the Y Button until you hear a brief beeping sound. Text to speech can then be enabled.

        Note: Some languages may require an additional download before text to speech can be enabled. The download may take a while to complete.

        • Japanese

        • Korean

    • Internet settings (optional, but required if performing a system transfer)

    • Time zone

    • System transfer from Nintendo Switch

    • User creation/Nintendo Account setup

    • Parental Controls (optional)

Additional information

  • Use the provided cables when setting up your Nintendo Switch 2 with the dock. The included Ultra High Speed HDMI cable and AC adapter (Model NGN-01) will ensure your console performs properly.

  • The Nintendo Switch AC adapter can be used when plugged into the Nintendo Switch 2 console directly, but due to differing power outputs, it can not be used with the Nintendo Switch 2 dock to support TV mode.
