How to Purchase or Download Content on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2

Instructions on purchasing and downloading games and content from Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch 2.

What is a Digital Download?

You can enjoy the same content found in a packaged game if you choose to buy Nintendo Switch 2 games digitally from Nintendo eShop. The downloaded game will be saved to your Nintendo Switch 2 system’s internal memory or microSD Express Card (sold separately). If you download multiple games, you can play them at any time without needing to swap out Nintendo Switch 2 Game Cards.

Important Information

To use Nintendo eShop, you will need a Nintendo Account.

After creating an account, link it to your profile on the Nintendo Switch 2 system.

Nintendo eShop restrictions can be set through the parent/guardian’s Nintendo Account profile settings on a PC or smart device (accessible by signing in on the Nintendo Account website).

Accessing Nintendo eShop

If you would like to purchase and download games digitally on Nintendo Switch 2, please visit Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo Switch 2 HOME menu:

Please note:

  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 console must be connected to the Internet.

  • Due to the large data size of some games, it may take some time for the game to download.

  • Please be aware that a game won't download if there isn't enough space available on your Nintendo Switch 2, or microSD Express Card.

Make a purchase on Nintendo eShop:

1. From the Nintendo eShop screen, search for a specific title or browse through different sections like ‘Current Offers’ and ‘Charts’. When you find a title you like, select it to go to the game details page. If you would like to purchase the software, select ‘Proceed to Purchase’ and follow the on-screen prompts.

  • Any downloadable content (DLC) associated with a title will also be available through the game details page. Select the individual DLC from the game details page to proceed with a purchase.

2. You can make purchases via ‘Credit Card’, ‘PayPal’ or ‘Nintendo eShop Card’. If you have already redeemed a Nintendo eShop Card, or added funds to your Nintendo Account balance, you can purchase software using the funds already applied to your account.

Nintendo eShop Card

If you have a Nintendo eShop Card, select ‘Redeem Code’ on the left side of the Nintendo eShop screen and enter the 16-character prepaid code. Nintendo eShop Cards are available from selected retailers in denominations of AU$15, AU$30, AU$60 and AU$100.

Credit Card

If you choose to pay by credit card, you can use either MasterCard or VISA to add funds. Select an amount you would like to add to your balance and then follow the prompts.

PayPal

If you choose to use your PayPal account to add funds, select an amount to add, and then follow the instructions. If you have not yet linked your PayPal account, then you will be prompted to do this before adding funds.

3. Once you have chosen your preferred payment method, confirm the purchase to complete the transaction.

Regardless of your payment method, you will receive a receipt via the email address linked to your Nintendo Account.

4. Once you see the ‘Thank You’ screen after a payment has been processed, your download will begin automatically. You can check the progress at any time from the HOME menu, just press the HOME button, or the ‘X’ button to close Nintendo eShop. If you would like to keep shopping on Nintendo eShop, select ‘Continue Shopping’ to return to the Nintendo eShop screen.

Add funds to your Nintendo Account

Learn how to add funds on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 using a credit card, PayPal or Nintendo eShop Card.

  • Within Nintendo eShop, select the picture of your icon in the upper-right corner to access your Account Information. Select ‘Add Funds’, then use a Credit Card, Nintendo eShop Card, or linked PayPal account to add the desired amount.

If you have a Nintendo eShop Card, select ‘Redeem Code’ on the left side of the Nintendo eShop screen and enter the 16-character prepaid code.
